2 Min Read HONG KONG (Reuters) - The growl of a chainsaw fills the air as a dead longan tree is felled under the watchful eye of Ricci Wong, founder of a Hong Kong non-profit to turn tree waste into furniture and other household products. Farmers and arborists working with private enterprises or government departments call the group to collect the wood whenever they spot fallen or dying trees that need to be removed. Wong established HK Timberbank after Typhoon Mangkhut in September 2018, an intense storm that uprooted tens of thousands of trees in the territory, when he saw what was being sent to the landfill was usable.

Melaka CM fondly recalls childhood memories under now-fallen tree

MELAKA: Like many other Melakans, Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali has many fond memories from his childhood involving a 157-year-old Yellow Flame tree that was uprooted following heavy rain here. The state Chief Minister said the tree held sentimental value for many locals, including him, who had gathered under its shade for more than one and a half centuries. During the exco meeting today, the uprooting incident was brought to our attention. All of us shared our past memories of taking shelter and frolicking under the tree during our teens, long before Melaka was a top tourist destination. Hearing that the tree was no longer there left us all sad, he said on Wednesday (March 17).
